CUSP took to the stage in the early evening for a magnificent set. Taking a break from recording, provided the band with an opportunity to try out some new songs. The set list (see below) was a mixutre of new and old, with the new songs providing the band a chance to expand of their reputation as great songwriters and performers. Rockier songs such as Rollercoaster and Mattress went down well, with much merriment and dancing. Personnally though, I thought the ballad of the set, Deeper and Deeper, was by far the stand out track. It was the first time the band had played it live, and were nervous as to whether they could pull it off, seeing as Sally was providing the lead & backing vocals. It did seem a bit strange to start with seeing Sally sing a line, then answer herself without moving her lips! However, the song sounded fantastic, and seemed to go down really well too. The set was sadly a little short, but then each band only had a 30 minute slot. And so they ended with the mighty Floodgate. And then it was time to go home. A great day out for everyone, and may we all do it again next year. |

As is becoming customary now, the band open with a double blast of groovin' tunes, 200 Hangovers followed by Mattress. Both are featured on the new CD that's being advertised tonight. Having had a break for a couple of months, while they finished off recording, the band could easily have sounded rusty, but no. Full flight pop with a no hint of a safety net, was the order of the night. A healthy selection of newer numbers made there way into the set, with the ballad Deeper And Deeper sounding stronger since the Melton gig. The couplet of Rollercoaster and Chaos, brought the tempo rousingly up again, with many arms and legs akimbo on the dance floor. In fact the crowd could barely stop bopping even during the quieter numbers Crocodile finished off the set, but more was demanded. Alas Sally's voice was too hoarse to carry on, so the band were persuaded to attempt an instrumental version of Marcus, with several of the audience handling the vocals Another great night, and another one to make you wish you'd been there. |
